Why You Should Only Buy Organic Strawberries

Strawberries are one of the healthiest foods in existence.  We buy fresh organic when available. They are a great source of potassium, vit C, anthocyanins and antioxidants promoting heart health and a stronger immune system also great for your skin. Unfortunately, strawberries are grown with more pesticides than most other crops. Buying organic to avoid the pesticides etc. is worth the investment.  No sense in counteracting all the benefits by adding detrimental and harmful pesticides. Fresh organic strawberries are now coming into season in the Northeast.  I plan to buy and enjoy frequently.

When strawberries are not in season, I buy organic strawberries weekly from Whole Foods and Belmont Market. They are available fresh or frozen.  I usually buy the frozen but delicious Cascadia or Woodstock strawberries. We heat them with a little topping made from 3/4 cup of organic flour and a little over 1/6 cup of extra virgin olive oil mixed together to a crumbly consistency. Place enough strawberries defrosted or fresh in the bottom of a small glass pie plate. Sprinkle the crumbly mixture on top evenly. Brown slightly in an oven preheated to 425 F for 12 or 13 minutes. Great taste packed with nutrients.

Strawberries, in one form or another, get chopped into salads, splashed into cocktails and smeared across toast.
