More About Oatmeal

Oatmeal 3We have been hearing more and more about healthy breakfasts. My husband always leaves in the morning taking two toasts with him to eat in the car along with a coffee containing 3 teaspoons of granulated sugar (about half the daily recommended amount of added sugar).

I wish he would take the time to start the day calmly and eat a nutritious healthy breakfast.

The rest of our family always enjoys a relaxed breakfast of oatmeal while watching the woodpeckers, doves along with many other feathered friends and the antics of our rather robust squirrels. It is a soothing start to a hectic day.

Oatmeal is an appetite tamer which keeps us satisfied until our mid morning snack! We start the day with a good supply of b-vitamins, magnesium, iron and protein.

Many people do not realize that oats contain polyphenols and probiotics as well as fiber. All are important in reducing inflammation, maintaining a healthy digestive tract and reducing your risk of heart disease and cancer.

I recommend whole organic oats which I buy in bulk from Whole Foods Market along with organic Thompson raisins also purchased in bulk from Whole Foods Market. Bulk purchasing is quite economical. Serve with 100% pure maple syrup.

A great way to start your day!
