Charlestown Takes a Big Step Towards Conservation

800px-Ninigret_Pond_from_north_shore 1Charlestown, Rhode Island has banned polystyrene containers and single use plastic bags from any event held on municipal property.  The ban will be implemented in 2017.

Also at the initiative of Town Council Vice President, George Tremblay, the Town Council has allocated $10,000 to to purchase fair trade, eco friendly, reusable tote and beach bags which will sell at local retailers for $2.  The cost of the bag and printing was $4 apiece.  The bags purpose is to make reusable, eco friendly bags more mainstream and reduce plastic bag usage.

Hopefully other towns will take notice and follow suit.
